ELCA-Primary Health Benefits include four health benefit options: Bronze+, Silver+, Gold+, and Platinum+. Plan members eligible for these benefits are:
- Under age 65 and sponsored by an eligible employer
- Under age 65 and continuing coverage at their own expense
- Age 65+ and sponsored by an eligible employer with 20+ employees
ELCA Medicare-Primary Health Benefits are for eligible plan members who are:
- Age 65 or older and continuing ELCA health coverage at their own expense
- Age 65 or older and sponsored by an eligible employer with less than 20 employees
- Under age 65 and receiving Medicare due to a disability
Aetna International Benefits is a health benefit package for eligible sponsored missionaries of ELCA Global Mission residing outside the United States.
Ways to Manage Costs
ELCA-Primary plan members complete the Live Well Challenge to earn wellness dollars that they can use to pay for eligible health care expenses.
Eligible plan members with the Gold+ or Platinum+ health benefit option, ELCA Medicare-Primary health benefits, or waiving health ELCA health benefits can contribute pretax dollars to a health flexible spending account (FSA) to pay for eligible health care expenses.
Eligible plan members can also set aside pretax dollars in a dependent (day) care FSA to pay for dependent (day) care expenses.
Eligible plan members with the Bronze+ or Silver+ health benefit option can contribute pretax dollars to a health savings account (HSA), which can be used for eligible health care expenses. They can also contribute pretax dollars to a limited-purpose health FSA, which can be used for eligible vision and dental expenses until the medical, mental health, and prescription drug deductible is met, after which it can be used for any eligible health care expenses.
ELCA-Primary plan members are eligible for a fitness center discount to help pay for membership at a participating fitness center.
ELCA Medicare-Primary plan members can use the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program that gives them access to a basic fitness center membership at a participating location.
ELCA-Primary health plan members and ELCA Medicare-Primary health plan members can use the hearing discount program to save money on diagnostic tests and hearing aids.

ELCA-Primary plan members have access to master’s-level counselors and other resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
ELCA Medicare-Primary plan members can call a registered nurse 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for help with medical questions or concerns.
